Initially designed in 1946 by Finnish interior architect and designer Ilmari Tapiovaara, the chair was for the Domus Academica student housing complex in Helsinki. The complex was the first large-scale project for Tapiovaara and his wife, Annikki Tapiovaara. The chair was designed to be a multifunctional piece of furniture that could serve many different purposes in the student rooms, hallways, auditoriums, conference rooms, and cafeteria. The Domus Chair is stackable, comfortable, and ergonomic, with an elegant and timeless design. Now manufactured by Artek, the chair is sure to bring a touch of Scandinavian style to any space.
