W Atelier Post Event Release of Sacco Design Showcase Banner Image

19 November 2018, Singapore – W. Atelier, together with Zanotta, celebrated the 50th anniversary of the iconic Sacco bean bag chair in Singapore with a design showcase supported by the DesignSingapore Council. The event was held at W. Atelier’s Henderson showroom at a cozy evening reception on 15 November, to more than 80 guests comprising industry partners and members of the media in attendance.

The three winning designs of Karyn Lim, Jarrod Lim and Tiffany Loy’s of the design showcase, took the spotlight that night with their outstanding ability to integrate an Asian essence into their creative yet functional pieces. Guests marvelled at Karyn Lim’s novel idea of zipping two or more bean bags together and gushed over Jarrod Lim’s intricate use of beads, while Tiffany Loy impressed everyone with her masterful handwoven creation.

Says Gani Atmadiredja, Managing Director of W. Atelier: “The Sacco bean bag chair is such an iconic design, and we are pleased to be a part of this design showcase and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Sacco Bean Bag Chair. The open call allow Singapore designers to join us in this design showcase and express their creativity through their own iteration of the Sacco chair. We are confident that the international design industry will appreciate the beauty of our winning designs’ Sacco chairs.”

Together with the other shortlisted designs, the winning designs are displayed at the W. Atelier Henderson Showroom until the end of the year. After which, the three winning designs will be transported to Milan to exhibit in the Zanotta Showroom at Piazza XXV Aprile for the whole month of February 2019. The 10 designs will then reunite and be showcased at the National Design Centre from July 2019 onwards.

About Zanotta

Established in 1954, Zanotta is one of the recognized leaders in Italian industrial design; and was among the first ones to include works by the great Masters in its catalogue (among them, those by the Castiglioni brothers, of which Achille’s 100th birthday applies in 2018). These collaborations gave rise to iconic products, both for the formal innovation and the technological research: real icons that from design classics have become long-sellers, awarded with many prizes and international acknowledgements. Products that witness the company’s pioneering ability to establish, since its very beginning, a “vision of the world”, bringing a witty touch into the domestic universe with a curious and open attitude, intercepting the cultural changes and becoming the interpreter of contemporary taste.

Over the years Zanotta, established and appreciated for the upholstered furniture, has opened to new production sceneries with a variety of furnishing objects and outdoor products, maintaining its 100% made in Italy production with a presence in over 60 Countries. Today the firm, being part of Tecno group, continues with renewed energy a further phase of development in the main international markets.

About W. Atelier

W. Atelier is a purveyor of luxury home furnishings and accessories in Singapore. This homegrown brand has a history dating back to 1979 when it was first established as the exclusive distributor of TOTO, a household name in sanitary ware and bathroom fixtures. W. Atelier enabled Singapore homeowners to experience innovative Japanese bathroom technology through signature TOTO products such as the Washlet, an electronic toilet seat with a water-cleansing system. Since 2010, W. Atelier rapidly expanded to include an international array of home furnishing products from Italian furniture to German kitchens and Scandinavian furnishings to Spanish lightings. With an eye for detail and design, W. Atelier prides itself as a curator of fine objects that are richly steeped in history and tradition yet timeless and elegant. As such, every addition to W. Atelier’s portfolio is carefully selected, making it possible for customers to own some of the most iconic products in design history – products that have shaped the very history of design and will continue to set trends in time to come, such as the Egg chair from Fritz Hansen and the Sacco easy-chair from Zanotta.

The expansion of W. Atelier’s offerings from the bathroom to the rest of the home is borne of the Japanese philosophy of “Kaizen” or continuous improvement. In line with W. Atelier’s commitment to improvement and quality, every brand added to its portfolio is a recognised leader in its respective industry. Ultimately, the wide selection of products from W. Atelier provides consumers with the convenience of furnishing their homes from a single location. To date, W.
